Austin area Montessori School“If education is always to be conceived along the same antiquated lines of a mere transmission of knowledge, there is little to be hoped from it in the bettering of man's future.”

The Primary program is a mixed age classroom fully equipped with Montessori materials for the purpose of developing the whole child.

Primary Montessori Instruction in Austin, TexasCedars offers 3 mixed age primary classrooms for children ages 3 to 5 years. Our highly qualified teachers guide the children through a developmentally based curriculum using Montessori materials.  These materials provide children the opportunity to explore the study of language, math, geography and biology. Sensorial materials help children organize their understanding of the world through the manipulation of the senses. Exercises in practical life provide opportunities for meaningful activity that develop coordination, attention, and independence. Art and Music  are an integral part a child's everyday classroom experience (the Music program follows Carl Orff instruction).

The mixed age classrooms allow older children to learn by helping younger ones, and younger children to be inspired and challenged by their older classmates. The grounds provide a spacious playground, garden areas, shaded picnic tables, corrals with animals, and a nature trail through a wooded area.

The program is 5 days a week for all children and has the following time guidelines:

  • Our half day session, 8.30 - 12.00 am is for all children and our extended day session, until 2.30 pm, is for 4-1/2 and 5 year olds.
  • Morning drop-off begins at 8.15 am.
  • The school year commences the third week in August and concludes the end of May.
