Spring is around the corner, and the children are in the garden; planting, mulching and harvesting spring’s crop; carrots. The children harvested the carrots from the garden and made pickled carrots in the kitchen with Gitana.
It was great fun to learn to pickle and to enjoy some sweet and sour carrots.
Several studies (research); were explored and discovered this past month. Many questions were asked, pondered and wondered by the children; thus supports the mind of the second plane child to naturally explore and discover independently or collaboratively. Children are reading and sharing what is referenced and written, internally and with others; creating reports, timelines, charts, and of course models/dioramas. Interesting and supporting facts are being shared with each other; developing further work and presentations given.
Some of which, include:
Leonardo de Vinci (what is the Mona Lisa?)
Sloths (why do sloths sleep so much?)
Neil Armstrong (how did we discover the moon?)
Wild Flowers (what is blooming right now?)
Mt. Vesuvius (what makes a volcano erupt?)
This week in Mountain Laurel…
We have several children participating and supporting plays this week and next. A few of the plays, which are going to be debuting soon, include:
“The Three Little Birds,” on 1/31 at 3 PM
“Captain Cuteness,” on 2/6 at 3 PM
“The Little Mermaid,” on 2/9 at 3 PM
We will communicate via email if your child is in a play so that you can save the date!
All plays are at the stage near the playground, and parking is along the after-care building and/or tree line of circle dr. There will be chairs and popcorn snack provided.
This week in the kitchen, we will be making roasted potatoes with garlic and thyme. In addition, we will be making rainbow snack wraps, which include avocado, carrots, peppers, cucumber and cream cheese wrapped in a tortilla shell. The children have been busy in the kitchen these past couple of weeks making recipes such as; banana pancakes, strawberry ice cream and pumpkin muffins. Last week, a group made delicious garlic knots from scratch and broccoli and cheese quiche. We will be moving into making pastas this month; exploring the craft of creating raviolis and gnocchi’s.
There are several children preparing historical studies for the library celebration, which will be on Wednesday, February 8th at 1:30 PM at the stage/playground. A few of the individuals included in the studies are Cleopatra, Alexander Hamilton, Maria Montessori and Neil Armstrong. The children are eager to share their facts found with others this day.
