We’ve recently finished the book, “Appleblossom the Possum,” by Holly Goldberg Sloan. The children have been listening during read aloud to the story, which is about a group of adventurous possums whom explore the real world filled with delicious bugs and strange metal monsters known as cars and trucks. They are also warned about the harries, which are known as cats and dogs. The story begins with understanding how to put on a production and Mama Possum teaches all her children how to do this strategically. Once the siblings understand, each possum has their final show. Appleblossom, the youngest possum decides to venture out and spy on a human family, and accidentally falls in the chimney. Her siblings organize an adventurous rescue mission to retrieve her. Appleblossom observes the humans closely without being noticed, but ends up meeting one of the smallest children who begins to love her and claims her as a pal. This is a wonderful book about a charming marsupial!
