Happy Fall everyone!
October has been filled with fun and learning in the Rabbit Run Classroom! We have continued our learning about well, everything. More specifically, though, we have focused on mammals. We can get pretty into it, but listen for little tid bits that your child might bring up in conversation. Of course, keep in mind that a younger child might remember something small like, “we are mammals” while older children might shock you with “mammals have mammary glands”. Remember that we talk about facts, and keep it super simple, yet real, for them. This isn’t 6th grade health class. So anything beyond what I teach is saved for you! Mammals have warm blood Mammals have backbones, so we are vertebrates Mammals feed milk to their young Mammals have their babies alive, most do not lay eggs Mammals have hair or fur Next month, we will begin our studies of birds! Also, in November we have the Fall Fandango. It is scheduled for November 8th at 5:30 pm. This is an big fundraiser for the school, but more importantly, it is a chance to have fun, meet other families and celebrate. The kiddos have worked hard on an art piece that will be auctioned off that night. Live music, pizza, friends.....what more can we ask for? Also, I am posting an observation calendar outside of the classroom. It will be inside a binder that has a Rabbit on the front. Inside the binder you will find an info sheet on observations, what to do, what NOT to do and what you might see in a typical day. We have visitors in the classroom often, so we have practiced what to do when someone is observing. We have worked with the children on letting the observer do their “work”, I.e. observing. You may feel compelled to correct your child, pick something up they dropped or remind them to put something away, but DON’T. I say this in the nicest, most respectful way, but truly this is their space and you want to see what they do when you aren’t there. Finally, I want to thank you all for your support of the school, of Rabbit Run and of your children. I know that you get a lot of reminders, emails, notes or just chit chat about upcoming coffee talks or what have you. It can be overwhelming. We understand that your time is precious and there is never any pressure to attend these special nights or events. With that said, you all continue to show up, literally and figuratively, and continue to humble Kelly and I with your commitment to your child’s education. We cannot THANK YOU enough for your unwavering support. With love and admiration, Jessica
