Hello all! I was thankful for the staff work day for Kara and I to get our space organized and for me to reach out to tell you about the goings-on in our classroom lately. Our mornings are filled with lots of group games as we get to know our new additions to the class, Celeste, Bram, Abel Gene, Florence, and Theo. The ever-popular I Spy (with beginning sounds and small objects) is a huge hit, and the children who have mastered this activity have even begun taking on the role as the teacher leading this game that we have been playing all year. This is the magic of a multi-age classroom! The farm has also gotten a refresher. It is a popular lesson for teaching reading and grammar skills. The youngest children are invited to interact with the farm, set it up, retrieve animals to learn the vocabulary, and even wash them in the washing bins. Afternoon children are writing stories with the farm and learning about nouns and adjectives. At our group gatherings we continue to play language games daily with rhymes, beginning sounds, and syllables. We have also been reading more books by Ezra Jack Keats. A popular one this week was Jennie's Hat. The afternoon children then made their own hat collages. The afternoon group has also been flying through their number rolls, the goal is to write numbers 1-1000. So far the furthest child is on 760! To our new families: please check out the class instagram @roadrunnercommunity for photos of our day :) And thank you for the well wishes on traveling to the conference, however I will be attending the AMS conference in Nashville during spring break. I can't wait to be around other Montessori teachers and come back with new inspiration to finish out the school year! Thanks for your continued support, Melissa and Kara
