December is wrapping up for us, so I thought I would touch base one more time before we all have a well-deserved break.
The kids are so excited, as I am sure you ALL know, yet they are still eager to work. The noise level is up, but as I look around the room everyone is working, so it’s good noise. We did manage to make cookies with the nutmeg the children ground. The afternoon children made the dough last Friday afternoon. They each got to put an ingredient in and help mix. I was happy to have 4 novice egg crackers get to do the egg honors. That’s always a fun experience! I can honestly say no shell was added to the ingredients! Everyone got a cookie with lunch yesterday! With this crazy weather we have been having I wanted to go over Roadrunner’s temp guidelines for jackets. I know jackets and long clothing can often be a struggle with our little Texans who are used to shorts and t-shirts all the time, so I leave it to the thermometer to decide. I do take into consideration the wind chill as well. 49 and below - coat and long pants, no choice. 50-59- if they have on long sleeves and they warm up, then they can take their jackets off. Long pants a must 60 and above I leave it up to them, even if they have short sleeves/short pants If you are having any issues with clothing, please send them in whatever clothes they want with their warmer clothes/jacket in a bag and we will handle the battle. It will make your morning much nicer and by the time the choice needs to be made they are usually cooperative. MISSING IN ROADRUNNER: Our short 5 chain from the math bead cabinet. This is made of light blue bead bars (5 beads in each bar) with five bars connected. It would be obvious that this is a classroom material. A good sized cowry seashell, about the size of a lemon, white with brown spots. Forks and spoons with red tape around the handle. FOUND IN ROADRUNNER 3 sweat jackets have been hanging for a couple of months. One is yellow with a shark on it, one is maroon and pink and one is dark blue. If these sound familiar please come take a look. They are not labeled and the children do not recognize them. Please, please, please put names on everything!! We have had a couple of children grab the wrong jacket but we were able to catch it because they were labeled. So helpful!! And often if the jacket is new the child doesn’t remember what their’s looks like. HELP NEEDED IN ROADRUNNER I am looking for one or two parents who could come one afternoon a week to help listen to my afternoon children read. I have several children in the afternoon who are to the point of just needing practice. It is hard for Claire and me to consistently make the time to sit and listen. I have a supply of books and will give a few pointers. If you are available for about 30-45 minutes, once a week I would really appreciate it. I will send you outside with each child so they are not too distracted and so that your child is not too distracted. Day and exact time are a little flexible, so contact me if you are interested. Claire and I wish you all a wonderful break. Thank you all for your support and for sharing your children with us! Stay safe and healthy! Susan and Claire
