" Never help a child with a task at which he feels he can succeed.”
-- Maria Montessori

ABOUT

Cedars is nestled on 16 acres of wooded land offering a rich educational environment for children ages 3-12.
Our program utilizes the outdoors to enhance lessons while providing daily enriching experiences. An integral part of the Cedar's mission is the development of respect and responsibility for the natural world. With the development and recognition of their individual strengths and passions, Cedars's students are prepared to contribute confidently, successfully and effectively in life.

Who We Are

Our highly qualified staff members, trained and certified through A.M.I. or A.M.S. , provide a comprehensive program for the development of the whole child.

Our History

Cedars Montessori School began in 1974 with one child and a goat in the old stone house on Star Route - now Circle Drive. Cedars founder, Jill Young, thought the Hill Country was the perfect place to create a beautiful prepared environment that would fulfill the promise of the philosophy and method of Dr. Maria Montessori.

After two years of steadily increasing enrollment, Bill Grein, (carpenter and Jill's husband), built the first classroom building.  Over the next 30 years he constructed 2 more classrooms, bunny runs, pathways, kiln shed, gardens and picnic areas - all in his "spare time!"

The 2.5 acres Cedars Montessori School started with became the 16 acres it is today when, in 2007, we bought the land and started the Elementary Program.   The land offers space for big outside movement, exploration, and quiet communication with nature. The grounds are now home to gardens, native plants and outdoor lessons.  Tending the needs of the animals and gardens fosters growth in awareness, understanding, responsibility, compassion and gratitude.

From one child to now, hundreds of graduates later, we continue to celebrate and feel profoundly grateful for this opportunity to fulfill the promise of the Montessori Education in this lovely setting.
