“The environment must be rich in motives which lend interest to activity and invite the child to conduct their own experiences.”
—Maria Montessori

Primary Program

Curriculum
Cedars Primary Program offers three mixed-age classrooms for children ages 3 to 6 years. Each classroom is fully equipped with Montessori materials for the purpose of developing the whole child.  The mixed-age classrooms allow older children to learn by helping younger ones, and younger children to be inspired and challenged by their older classmates. The grounds provide a spacious playground, garden areas, shaded picnic tables, corrals with animals, and a nature trail through a wooded area.

Schedule
Classes are scheduled five days per week  with substantial, uninterrupted work periods every day: 3 hours per day every morning for all children, and 2-3 hours per day every afternoon for the older children.

Teachers
Our highly qualified AMI/AMS certified teachers guide the children through a developmentally-based curriculum using Montessori materials.  These materials provide children the opportunity to explore the study of language, math, geography and biology. Sensorial materials help children organize their understanding of the world through manipulation that isolates the senses.
Materials are specifically designed to help children develop discrimination and order while they broaden and refine the senses. For instance, visual discrimination of differences in dimension, width, length and size can be found in the Pink Tower, Brown Stair, Red Rods, and the Knobbed Cylinders.  LEARN MORE
